What are your views on "Baby Reins"?
Personally, I can see their benefit, and the reason that mothers use them, but I just dont like the idea of "leashing" my child.
What are your views?

Before I had children, I thought that only a lazy parent would use this type of thing. I remember when I was around 8 or 9 (circa 1983/4) seeing child reins that really did look like a leash or a harness, like you would use to walk a dog. I thought they were terrible.
Fast forward. . .
I now have a toddler who has a lot of trouble sitting still. Until recently, she was ok in a stroller or Shopping Cart, but now she tries to wriggle and jump out, and she has almost made it a couple of times. I've tried hand-holding, but she's an expert at getting out of that, too.
I recently decided to get her one of the backpacks where the tail is the leash. She picked a monkey, and she loves it. She even wears it around the house (without the tail/leash). The best part is, when the leash is attached, she doesn't really notice, since she's got the monkey AND she's free to walk around (maybe a 3-ft. radius?).
We are both completely happy, because she feels like she has her freedom, and I don't have to worry about a) minor cuts and injuries from squirming too hard under straps; b) screaming and wailing because she wants to have her feet on the ground; and c) what if she wriggles away and shoots out of sight for two seconds, and some freak grabs her. You can almost always control your kids, but you have no control over strangers.
Final verdict: after initial hesitation, two thumbs up.
