Pet Cat and Newborn Baby?
I've posted this in Cats too...
Pet Cat and a Newborn Baby?
My husband and I have a < 2 year old Kitten. She's very affectionate and lovey, likes to play (hides and jumps out at us when we walk by etc...), and has several favorite toys, and is obsessed with bugs. She also has the typical "cattitude" once in a while. She gets a lot of attention from us as she's the only other being in the house.
We're expecting our First Baby, and I'm just curious if any of you have dealt with this type of situation and how the cat did with the new addition to the family.
Any tips and advice for making the transition easier for our cat?
And also safety tips? She has no front claws (please don't swamp me with opinions on de-clawing, I'm just mentioning it concerning baby's safety), so I'm not too worried about baby being hurt. I'll be home keeping a close eye on them both in the beginning though.

I have 2 declawed cats. They were spoiled rotten before baby. The biggest thing is to make sure the cats stay out of their sleeping areas (cribs, bassinets, pack n play's). These are the biggest areas of concern for me, as it's where the baby is least supervised (they're sleeping, your cleaning, etc.). My cats did very well. My one cat Shenzi liked to curl right up with me and my son. He often lays along my son's back as my son is nursing. My biggest problem with him is he's long haired and tends to stick his tail in my sons face, but I'm right there so I move it. My cats know to stay out of the crib. If they started going in it I took them right out. Set up the crib ahead of time and let them get in and sniff around to help them get their curiousity out. My other cat Stitch, wanted nothing to do with me or the baby. He stayed away from me for months. He does finally come around now (my son's 5 mo). My biggest problem with him is he's a 16 lb cat and doesn't understand that he can't step on the baby, which is a problem when my son is in bed with me. Hope this helps you out a little. My mom insisted I close my bedroom door to the cats when I brought my son home, but that would have really made my cats mad and they would've thrown a fit if I did that, as they always slept with me. So the door stayed open and we didn't have any problems.
Also, with the whole breastmilk thing, my cats love regular milk, but have never shown any interest whatsoever to my breastmilk.
