When can I stop worrying about the cat getting in the crib?
I have a 5 1/2 month old. Her crib is in our bedroom.
I have an 11 year old cat that is super friendly and snuggly, and has always slept with me at night.
Since the baby was born, we keep the bedroom door shut at night so she can't come in. I am almost positive she would not go in the crib, but am not willing to take the chance of her cuddling on the baby and laying on her face or something.
I had the cat for my other two children, but I don't remember what I did about her. Maybe nothing.....maybe I am getting more precautious with age!
Anyway, the cat sits outside the bedroom door and "crys" to get in. I want to let her, and feel that I am a very light sleeper and would wake if there is any fussing in the crib - BUT baby's safety comes way before cat's comfort.
Any suggestions on how hold baby should be before it isn't an issue anymore?
EDIT: I meant how "old" - not "hold"! lol
hm... I'd say about 6-7 months and then thee baby should have his/her own room. I don't know that's my opinion.
I have the same problem with my dog. My dog was so use to sleeping with me when I brought the baby home hefollowed me everywhere I went and when the baby cried he would start whining at me and go to my bedroom.
When I had Jaiden in his bassenet/playpin for the first2 months, my dog didn't sleep with me. Then I started to see how he was around the baby when I'm sleeping in the bedroom. The dog didn't do anything but lay on the bed with me and when I got up he just looked at me and went right back to sleep until I left the bedroom.
My son is going to be in his own bedroom when he turns 6 months. He's 5 months the 18th of October.
But ever since his 2nd-3rd month he's been okay with the baby in the bedroom.
I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just treat your cat like you use to before the baby and the attention for both baby and cat will equal out sooner or later.
