If I call the poison control center, will the government take my child away?
I feel so terrible. This evening my 20 month old got ahold of a bottle of jewelry cleaner and managed to open it. I know that he couldn't have had it for more than a few seconds, and I quickly snatched it away from him, but he'd spilled some on his shorts, and I could swear I smelled a little on his breath. Needless to say, I was horrified and immediately called poison control. Everything is fine, and I'm not actually sure he injested any anyway, but I'm terrified that he'll be taken away from me now. I had a child Safety Lock on the drawer the cleaner was in, and I was right there in the room. I turned away for less than a minute. I just can't believe this happened.
Of course he will not be taken away from you for calling for help with this accident that could have been a very dangerous one -- they maybe would take him away (and rightly so) if you had NOT called and placed your fear of anything above his immediate well-being.
Don't ever be afraid to get help with your children for fear of reprecussions -- you know you are not an abusive Mom and sadly it takes a lot to remove children from their mother.
Hope your little guy is OK, and it's good thatyou feel terrible -- we always needs reminders that we cannot look away even for a second with babies this age.
