Thermometer VS heater in marine tank. Which is wrong?
I have a 14 gallon nano cube and Im using a digital thermometer in the last chamber with the return pump, I have it rubber banded to the pump to keep it from floating. The temp reads 81.4, but when I touch the water it does not feel that warm at all. My house is def not that hot, and when I unplugged the heater it only dropped a few degrees. I added some live rock the the chamber with the heater, so there's less water in their but the heater should still maintain its temp.
I added some Phos X to the last chamber, maybe that's causing some reaction thats raising the temp in the last chamber? I dunno. Im gonna mess with it later when Im not acclimating something. Any idea why my temp reads so high?
Im gonna move the thermometer and see if it reads different in the actual tank.
Yup , you got it. The pump gives off heat, and thus makes the thermometer read higher than the actual temp.
Also , do not rely on a heaters thermostat as a guage of water temp.
They are extremely inaccurate and will drift even further from being accurate as they age.
