What time frame is involved in turning a breech baby prior to deciding to C-section?
My step-daughter is scheduled to go into the hospital tomorrow morning at 5:30 a.m. Two weeks ago, baby had turned to correct position and daughter was dilated 2 cm. Baby was due 12/25 and is now late; daughter and baby are both losing weight. Baby is a comedianne and turned breech again ~ she's her mother's daughter! ;o) Daughter's been told they will begin working on her at about 7:00 a.m. to try to turn the baby. If they cannot turn the baby, they will perform a C-section. Because of divorce and re-marriages, the waiting room could be full of pending grandparents. *L* How many of you have had this experience and how long did they work to turn the baby before the doctor decided the C-section was the better option? We desperately want to be there, but don't want to overwhelm daughter or waiting room and are trying to decide the best time to arrive. Thank you for your input.
The procedure they use is called External Cephalic Version. It's a last ditch effort for a chance at a vaginal delivery, and in my experience, it works about half of the time. If it works, it usually goes pretty quickly (15-20 minutes). If it doesn't work, it depends on the doctor and how long he wants to try before giving up. It is definitely not an all day procedure, I would say no more than an hour. Good luck!
