For those who have been stationed at Germany?
Hello. My husband and I got orders to Hohenfels, Germany. I know at our PCS briefing they said a king or queen bed will not fit into the rooms over there and our sectional most likely will not fit through the doorway.
We will be living on base.
Anybody have a king or queen bed and a sectional over there?
Are the rooms really that small? If so what kind of furniture do you recommend?
We had a queen size bed and of course we had a Shrunk (which is huge, we have more of a problem with our Shrunk here in the states than we did in Germany). I am not sure about the King size bed.
Now if your sectional can be broken down into 2 or 3 pieces that might help but I have seen some extremely small living rooms on base in Germany so be cautious about that.
Like almost everyone mentioned, they will issue some loaner furniture and you can use it the whole time you are there. We did. We had a dining room table and chairs, used their coach and love seat and ottoman, TV Center, and end tables and some other odds and ends.
I don't recommend you take any appliances over there depending on what type of outlets they have on-post, because the transformer you need is the most expensive one like $200 for the kitchen appliances if your housing only has german one. Washer and Dryer, I wouldn't take them, if you are going to be living in stair Well Housing, which is like 5 or 6 stories high, they will have a washer and dryer available for everyone to use in one room.
Make sure you take advantage of the Ho baggage shipment. Send towels, blankets, warm clothes, pots and pans, silverware, dishes, kitchen stuff, etc.,. We had our stuff waiting for us with this shipment as soon as we got there.
Don't just stay at home and don't go no farther than post. Do lots of traveling. My kids and I went to 15 other countries while we were stationed there.
