Mini Poodle???
I have a parti colored mini poodle who is 10 months or age and right now she has two major issues! First at 10 months of age you would think that she would be house trained but the isnt! We officailly thought that she was house trained at the age of 7-8months but lately she has been having a lot of accidents and we are watching her but she is doing them right in front of her and then we tell he she is bad and take her outside and once she goes outside and does her buisness then we praise her and tell her good potty outside is there something that we are doing wrong???
The other issue is that she doesnt come on command. IN the house she does all the time all you have to say is bella come but when we get into the yard she runs around like crazy trying to catch rabbits and birds chasing the neighbors and runnign in the street usually she gets out of the house on accident but we still worry about her safety please help!
Firstly, take her for a health check, just to make sure that all is well with her health wise.
Assuming all is well with her then remember that poodles are intelligent dogs, but don't make the mistake of confusing intelligence with obedience. Their intelligence gives them the ability to think independently and come up with a set of alternatives that they might prefer to do rather than obey you. These poodle generated 'alternatives' need to be nipped in the bud otherwise you end up with a poodle who is living on their own rules with you running circles around them.
Go back to basics with the house breaking. Take Bella out to potty at least every half an hour. Don't play with her or distract her, just stay with her quietly until she does something, if she needs to. If she does do something as soon as she goes give a command which will eventually end up as a prompt to go potty. You can use whatever you like but be consistent with the same command.
To help her go through the night don't feed her or give her any water from an hour or so before bedtime. Make sure you take her out just prior to closing down for the night and first thing in the morning.
What does she sleep in at night? If you are not using a crate then it may be a good idea to consider getting one. They are great for housebreaking as the dog doesn't walk around and stimulate itself to go potty and they don't like to foul their own beds so it teaches them to 'hang on'. All my poodles still sleep in theirs now. I think they like their own secure space to rest in at night.
As far as recall is concerned the best way to train for that is by using an extendalead. Train Bella in a quiet outdoor place away from distraction. Place her in a sit with someone next to her if need be. Tell her to wait. You walk away as far as the extendable lead will allow. Turn and call Bella. When she runs to you praise her and give her a treat or her favourite toy. Whe she is reliable on lead try it off lead. Always carry treats with you so she knows she'll get something good when she comes to you. It may take time, but it'll work.
Good luck
