Should I sign my 10 yr old up for 5th grade advanced classes?
He has been in a Magnet school for 3 years and made A and B's on his report cards. My son is a smart kid but hes not a genious. Hes goin into the 5th grade and still in the Magnet program they asked if Parents wanted to sign their kids up for advanced classes I dont know if he is ready but do want him to be challenged. Will the school test him to see if he is ready? We live in Nashville Tn.

The real question is whether or not your child -wants- to be in the programs. If he does; then let him sign up. A's and B's don't matter nearly as much as whether or not he's enjoying the class and learning from it.
If he doesn't want to be pushed, don't push him. If he really wants to be in these classes, (sometimes a child will do better in an advance than a normal class), then let him.
Just keep communication open and don't push and things will be fine.
