The Wii Fit Advantages Over Other Exercise Programs

From all accounts, Nintendo's Wii Fit is fun, but are there other advantages? Does it actually give a workout? Is it worth the cost? Is it to hard or too easy? Is it complicated to set up? Let us take a look at some of the Wii Fit advantages.

One of the main advantages of this video game is that it can be used by the entire family, but the data, such as weight and progress, can be password protected so prying eyes will not be able to see what you do not want them to see. Unlike watching someone lift weights, which can be pretty tedious, the Wii Fit makes it fun to watch other people exercising/playing each of the 40 different activities in one of three difficulty levels. Family togetherness is one advantage that it has over other exercise programs.

Compared to buying a membership at the local gym, the Wii Fit is much less expensive. A gym, depending on where you live, will cost around $100 per month; that is $1200 per year, not including the gas to get to the gym. The Fit can be purchased for less than one hundred dollars.

If you do buy a gym membership, you still need time to go to the facility and use it. It is very easy to put going to the gym at the bottom of your to-do list and only finding time to go workout sporadically. You can workout with the Fit right in your own living room and doing a routine will take you less than an hour.

On a regular fitness program it is so tempting to play with the scale to make sure you get the right reading. You cannot do this when using this video game. Every day when you step on the balance board it automatically calculates your weight and body mass index (BMI). No more having to write down what routine you did or your weight.

Everyone who uses the game creates his or her own Mii character who does the exercises in the game, which is controlled by the individual on the balance board. What you do on the balance board, the Mii does in the game. It has easy-to-follow instructions and the routine is selected based on the number of pounds you want to gain or lose, as well as your fitness level. It is never too hard or too easy. Beginners especially enjoy using Wii Fit.

The set-up process is very basic. Assuming you already own the Wii console itself, just plug in the balance board, put the game CD into the console and begin getting fit. It is fun and easy, even for people who have no experience using video games.

While the Wii Fit advantages are plentiful for someone who is just getting into a fitness habit, it will not take the place of a gym or other strenuous exercise routine for those already in good shape. But, even for those people, it is still a lot of fun to play with and definitely worth the investment.

Arthur Rofield is a huge fan of Wii Fit since they were release. His particular interest lie in how Nintendo Wii Console is used as a modern day medium to bring distant family and relationships together

After working on my Wii bowling game and fine tuning my Wii golf game, 2010 seemed like the right time to try out the plethora of Wii Fit games, which are as much about getting you in shape as they are about having fun. After about 30 minutes, I synced the balance board and I was finally ready to go with Nintendo’s Wii Fit Plus (reading the directions carefully would have saved some time). A small Wii balance board on the screen talked me through the program in a high-pitched voice. I stepped on the white platform to have my body mass index and balance measured. My BMI was normal, which I knew, but my balance was just a little bit off — to the left to be exact. That came as a surprise, but as a competent snowboarder and regular exerciser, I wasn’t too concerned.
